IFTA 2020 VISUAL EFFECTS CLEAN SWEEP

SSVFX has managed to achieve all four ‘Best Visual Effects’ nominations at the Irish Film & Television Academy 2020 Film & Drama Awards for their work on HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ S8, ‘The Favourite’, Martin Scorsese’s epic ‘The Irishman’ and Stacie Passon’s indy film ‘We Have Always Lived in A Castle’.

The IFTAs are Irelands most prestigious TV and film awards ceremony. With the virtual ceremony plans underway, IFTA recently stated “Our Industry is delivering world-class standards and the Irish Academy is proud to showcase and acknowledge their achievements. These past few months have been difficult for so many and we look forward to a time when Irish Productions can resume and continue to bring powerful engaging stories to the screen.’

We’re the first to achieve the unheard of clean sweep in the Visual Effects category. The nominees this year are for Ed Bruce (Head of VFX & Visual Effects Supervisor), Jim O’Hagan (Visual Effects Supervisor), Nicholas Murphy (Visual Effects Production Manager) and Ronan Gantly (Visual Effects Compositing Lead).

Jim O’Hagan and Ronan Gantly – Game of Thrones
Ed Bruce and Nicholas Murphy – The Favourite
Ed Bruce and Jim O’Hagan – The Irishman
Ed Bruce and Nicholas Murphy – We Have Always Lived in the Castle

This will be Jim O’Hagan’s and Ronan Gantly’s 1st IFTA nomination whilst industry veteran Ed Bruce is on his 9th IFTA nomination, winning one IFTA previously in 2016 for The ITV’s Frankenstein Chronicles alongside Nicholas Murphy, who also has an impressive 8 IFTA nominations under his belt.

Massive congrats to all IFTA nominees – we’re looking forward to the virtual ceremony in September. For more information, and to see the full list of nominees visit https://www.ifta.ie/awards/news/nominations_2020.html
